Our Story
The vision for Coast RTA began in 1980 when Ivory Wilson, Clarence Watkins, and J.R. Taylor set out to bring reliable public transportation to coastal South Carolina.
Their dream became reality in 1983 with the launch of the Coastal Rapid Public Transit Authority (CRPTA), which began with six leased buses and a few hundred daily riders. Over four decades later, Coast RTA continues to grow—serving thousands each day and embracing innovation to deliver on its mission:
